This course introduces the foundations of Cartography and Map Design including topics and techniques important to the creation of cartographic visualizations using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for digital and hardcopy maps.  Students will explore and practice the guiding principles and cutting edge techniques that make modern cartographic products in such high demand across our multimedia social spaces and marketplaces as well as research and data environments.  Prerequisite with concurrency: GEO 3710
