Study of the history and philosophy of dance from lineage-based societies through the early decades of modern dance, ballet, vernacular forms and dance as public art. Areas covered will include pre-Christian civilizations, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Golden Age of Ballet, the Age of Innovation in Ballet through the Contemporary Period of history.
