ENGL 3030 - Structure of English Credits: (3) Typically Taught Summer Semester: Check with department for course availability. Typically Taught Fall Semester: Full Sem Typically Taught Spring Semester: Full Sem Description: This course presents the major parts of speech, grammatical functions, and constructions of Standard English. Its purpose is to show that English, like any human language, is an intricate and rule-governed system. To this end, it draws on the terminology of traditional grammar and the analytical techniques of structural and transformational grammar, including contextual definitions and tree diagramming. The course is directed toward departmental English majors, teaching majors, advanced ESL students, and students majoring in foreign language teaching. Pre-requisite(s): ENGL 2010 or ENGL 2015 , or equivalent.
