Description: Finance in the public sector is fundamentally different from business or corporate finance.  This course will provide an overview of finance as directly related to public health.  Basic concepts of government accounting and budgeting will be presented.  The financial aspects of Medicare and Medicaid along with grant funding and funding agencies will be discussed.  Students will leave the course with the ability to formulate a public health program budget as well as the background knowledge necessary to understand the financial operations of local and state departments of health.
