PTGS 4740 - Translation II Credits: (3) Course Fee: $8.00 Course Fee Purpose: Maintain technology in the FL lab, EH 408, and classroom technology. Description: (IH=Intermediate High) Development of techniques and skills needed for bilingual translation of non-fiction texts. Emphasis will be on the translation into the target language. Methods of contrastive linguistics to analyze pertinent aspects of language structure, involving syntax, vocabulary and style, as well as basic theoretical-historical concepts are employed. Students are given ample opportunity to apply these techniques and concepts through a series of written translation assignments, which form the basis for class discussion. Prerequisite/Co-requisite: PTGS 3740 is strongly advised, but not required.
