MFET 5500G - Engineering Design and Development (EDD) Credits: (5) Description: In this course, students work on a team with one or two others to design and construct the solution to an engineering problem. The problems involve a wide range of engineering applications (e.g., a school robo-mascot, automated solar water heater, remote control hover craft). The course serves as a capstone course where students apply the principles they developed in previous courses. A journal is part of each student’s portfolio. Each team is responsible for delivering progress reports and making final presentations to an outside review panel. The course meets for a total of 75 hours over a two-week period and focuses on the content as well as teaching methods appropriate for the course. This course is designed specifically and only for current high school teachers who have been assigned by their schools and districts to teach the Project Lead the Way courses in their respective schools. These courses carry graduate credit for those teachers who would use them as part of a master’s degree program or for recertification.
