ESS 4370 - Clinical Exercise Physiology Credits: (3) Typically Taught Fall Semester: Full Sem Typically Taught Spring Semester: Full Sem Course Fee: $20.00 Course Fee Purpose: This course has a fee attached. Course fees are established in order to benefit the students in this course and may, among other things, be used to cover the costs of equipment replacement and maintenance, consumable materials, licensure examinations, or to meet specific regulatory requirements. Examples of course fee expenditures for this specific course include laboratory equipment for blood cholesterol measurements, skinfold calipers, blood pressure cuffs, heart rate monitors, ECG supplies, treadmill and cycle ergometer maintenance. Description: This course provides a comprehensive look at the clinical aspects of exercise physiology by thoroughly examining the relationship between exercise and chronic disease. It provides students with fundamental knowledge of disease-specific pathology and treatment guidelines. Overview of each condition’s unique physiology, effects of the condition on the exercise response, effects of exercise training on the condition, and recommendations for exercise testing and programming are presented in a selected topics format. Pre-requisite(s): ESS 2300 and ESS 3510 .
