Course Delivery Options
Pathway to Contemporary Mathematics (MATH 0810 )
This course is ONLY for students who plan to take MATH 1030 (i.e. Humanities and Social Studies majors). This course replaces the need to take MATH 0990 and MATH 1010 , but it is not a combination of the two courses. Curriculum is focused on learning how to think and reason mathematically and is not algebra intensive. This course meets four days a week in a classroom with an instructor. Collaborative learning is a key element of this course. MATH 0950 is a prerequisite for this course. This course cannot be transferred to another institution.
TERM (available for MATH 0950 , MATH 0990 , and MATH 1010 )
Technology Enhanced Redesign of Mathematics (TERM) courses are computer-based plus personal, individualized instruction. More than one course can be completed in one semester. Students attend class one day a week and attend at least two additional hours per week in the math tutoring center (the Hub). Students in TERM should be self-motivated and have good time management skills. TERM courses prepare students for MATH 1030 , MATH 1040 or MATH 1050 .
Online (available for MATH 0950 , MATH 0990 , and MATH 1010 )
Courses use computer-based instruction. More than one course can be completed in one semester. No on-campus attendance is required, but local students are welcome to use the math tutoring center (the Hub) for instruction and testing. Students in online courses should be self-motivated, have good time management skills, consistent access to a computer and excellent technology skills. All quizzes and tests must be proctored, which may require additional fees. Online courses prepare students for MATH 1030 , MATH 1040 or MATH 1050 .
Flipped Math (available for MATH 0950 , MATH 0990 , and MATH 1010 )
Courses meet 4 days a week in a classroom with an instructor. Students take notes while reading the e-textbook and/or watching video lectures before class, then work in groups during class to learn the course content. Homework and tests are taken online. This course is best for students who prefer a structured schedule and a social learning environment. Flipped courses prepare students for MATH 1030 , MATH 1040 or MATH 1050 .
Placement in Mathematics Courses
To prevent delay of graduation, all students requiring developmental courses need to begin those courses immediately and stay registered in mathematics until completing a Quantitative Literacy course. Developmental Math courses provide foundational skills necessary for college level courses. Students are placed into mathematics courses using a weighted rubric of high school GPA and Math ACT scores. of high school GPA and Math ACT scores. If you do not have a high school GPA and/or ACT score, or if you wish to challenge your course placement, you should take the Math Mastery Exam.
