Entrepreneurship (AS)

The Hall Global Entrepreneurship Center in the Goddard School of Business and Economics at Weber State University offers an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Entrepreneurship that partners with various Departments and Colleges across campus to deliver a more effectual and compelling learning opportunity for students. In addition to a 16-credit entrepreneurial core, this new degree will allow learners the opportunity to select a predetermined nine-credit emphasis they are interested in studying (e.g. Business, Communications, Computing, Outdoor Recreation, and Product Design and Development). This along with the already required general education course load will fulfill AS expectations. The degree will give students the opportunity to explore a major study area, learn how to think and act more innovatively and encourage them to continue their education and work towards a Bachelor’s Degree.

  • Program Prerequisites: Acceptance into Weber State University.
  • Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 60 credit hours is required; a minimum of 20 of these is required in residence (for transfer students).
  • Grade Requirements: A minimum grade of “C-” will be accepted in courses used to satisfy the associate’s degree requirements.
  • Program Code: 4010AS with one of the following emphasis codes: 4058(Product Design and Development), 4059(Computer Science), 4060(Communications), 4061 (Outdoor & Community Recreation), 4062 (Psychological Science), 4063 (Business)

Advisement

  • Students should contact advisors in the college of their emphasis area.
  • Students interested in continuing studies in the in the Goddard School of Business and Economics beyond an Associate’s Degree in Entrepreneurship should select the following General Education courses:
  1. General Education Core - Quantitative Literacy (QL) requirement: MATH 1050 College Algebra  OR  MATH 1090 Business College Algebra.
  2. General Education Breadth - Social Science (SS) 1 of 2 needed requirements: ECON 2010  Principles of Microeconomics  OR  ECON 2020 Principles of Macroeconomics.

Admission Requirements

  • Students who plan to complete an A.S. in Entrepreneurship should meet with the relevant program advisor. Refer to Degree Requirements for Associate of Science requirements. The following courses required for the Entrepreneurship AS program will satisfy general education as we all required and optional entrepreneurship and specific track courses.
  • Students should complete the AS program in two years.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Satisfy student demand for Associate of Science-level programs that are supported by the Utah Department of Workforce Services.
  2. Provide students with shorter-term goals or milestones along the way to a 4-year degree.
  3. Contribute to Weber State University’s vision in achieving transformative experiences for students as it looks to promote student achievement, equity and inclusion, as well as create transformative and experiential learning opportunities, and vibrant community relationships through this unique pathway.
  4. Enable students to obtain positive labor market outcomes with respect to earnings and unemployment rates for associate’s degrees compared to those with some college but no awarded degree.
  5. Allow students to refine critical thinking and problem solving skills and improve creative and innovative thinking ability as they utilize an entrepreneurial mindset.
