Conditional Acceptance

Undergraduate students majoring in Rehabilitation Sciences (BS)  can apply for conditional acceptance into the MSAT accelerated graduate degree pathway once they have completed at least 30 undergraduate credit hours (1000-5000 level). These credit hours must include the following courses:

• HTHS 1101  - Medical Terminology Credits: (2)

• RHS 2175  - Introduction to Sports Medicine Credits: (3)
• RHS 2890  - Introduction to Cooperative Work Experience Credits: (1)

• PAR 1000 INT - Emergency Medical Technician Credits: (4) and

  For the courses listed above, students must achieve a grade of “B-” or better in all RHS courses and a grade of “C” or better in all non-RHS courses. Additionally, students must have an overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.2 to be eligible for conditional acceptance.

   

  Upon receiving conditional acceptance to the 3+2 Accelerated Graduate Degree Pathway, Rehabilitation Sciences (BS) majors can bypass the following RHS required courses:

• RHS 3200  - Psychology of Sport, Injury & Rehabilitation Credits: (3)
• RHS 3300  - Evaluation and Care of Musculoskeletal Injuries: Lower Extremities Credits: (3)
• RHS 3301  - Evaluation and Care of Musculoskeletal Injuries: Upper Extremities Credits: (3)
• RHS 4150  - Therapeutic Modalities for Rehabilitation Sciences majors Credits: (3)
• RHS 4250  - Rehabilitation for Rehabilitation Sciences majors Credits: (3)
• RHS 4650  - Management for Rehabilitation Sciences Majors Credits: (3)
• RHS 4800 CRE - Individual Projects Credits: (1-4)
• RHS 4890 INT - Cooperative Work Experience Credits: (1-6)

Admission Requirements

Conditionally accepted students are eligible to matriculate into the MSAT program in the subsequent Fall semester once they have met the following admissions criteria:

• Completed at least 96 undergraduate credit hours (1000-5000 level)
  • At least 30 of these credit hours must be taken at WSU to fulfill the residency requirement
  • At least 16 of these credit hours must be upper-division (3000-5000 level) and should include the following MSAT prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” or better:
    • ESS 3450 - Structural Kinesiology (3)   
    • PUBH 3150 - Introduction to Public Health (3)  
    • ESS 3500 - Biomechanics (3)   
    • ESS 3510 - Exercise Physiology (3)  
• Completed all remaining RHS support courses with a grade of “C” or better
  • NUTR 1020 LS SUS - Science and Application of Human Nutrition (3)  
  • PSY 1010 SS - Introductory Psychology (3)  
  • PHYS 1010 PS - Elementary Physics (3)  
  • ZOOL 1010 LS - Animal Biology (3)  
    or
  • ZOOL 1020 LS - Human Biology (3)  
• Completed all WSU general education requirements
• Maintained an overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.2.
• Submitted a Graduate Athletic Training Student Application through ATCAS (found online at: https://atcas.liaisoncas.com). This application must include:
  • Official Transcripts from ALL other colleges/universities attended (sent to directly to ATCAS)
  • Personal Statement
  • Two References - at least one reference must be a college-level instructor
  • 50 observation hours (documented) with a certified and licensed athletic trainer
  • Application Fee (paid directly to ATCAS)
• Completed a Program Interview - in person or virtual

Students denied admission into the MSAT program will be encouraged to apply for admission to the Rehabilitation Sciences (BS) program to complete the remaining bachelor’s degree requirements.

Graduate Coursework

During the first year of the MSAT program, 24 of the graduate credits completed will also be applied (credit share) as upper-division undergraduate credit hours to fulfill the degree requirements in the Rehabilitation Sciences (BS)  program. These graduate credits are aligned to fulfill the required RHS courses that were bypassed upon conditional acceptance (listed above).

Graduate Retention Requirements

1. Retention in the graduate MSAT program will be based on the following criteria:
   1. Grade “B-” or better in all required MSAT courses.
   2. Maintain an overall Weber State University Graduate GPA of 3.0.
   3. Adhere to MSAT Athletic Training Student Handbook Policies.
2. Students who fail to meet the retention criteria will be placed on probation in the MSAT program for one semester. If standards are not met by the end of the probationary period, the student will be dismissed from the program. Students who receive a grade lower than a “B-” in any required MSAT course must repeat that course and receive a grade of “B-” or higher to remain in the program. Failure to repeat the course (when offered) will result in dismissal from the program. Students who receive a grade lower than a “B-” in two or more MSAT courses will be dismissed from the program.
3. Students who choose to discontinue the MSAT program or are dismissed from the program within the first year will be directed to the Rehabilitation Sciences (BS) program director for academic advisement. A plan for completing their bachelor’s degree will be developed. The MSAT program director and the Office of Graduate Studies will determine whether any credit sharing will be applied based on the MSAT courses the student completed before discontinuance/dismissal.
4. Students who complete the first year of the MSAT program but choose to discontinue the program afterward will still receive their Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation Sciences.
