Master of Accounting Accelerated Graduate Degree Pathway

Undergraduate students majoring in Accounting (BS) have the opportunity to begin the MAcc program a semester sooner through our 4+1 accelerated graduate degree pathway. By enabling students to fulfill up to 12 undergraduate and graduate course credits by completing the same set of courses, students can earn both their Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Master of Accounting degree in as few as five years (four years of undergraduate coursework and one year of graduate coursework).

Conditional Acceptance
Undergraduate students majoring in Accounting (BS) can apply for acceptance into the Accounting Accelerated Graduate Degree pathway upon completion of 90 undergraduate credits. At the time of application, students must have a 3.0 overall GPA to be considered for conditional acceptance. These 90 credit hours must include the following courses, and must each be completed with a “C” grade or higher: MAcc Admission Requirements
Conditionally accepted students are eligible to matriculate into the MAcc program in the subsequent semester once they have met the following admissions criteria: - Complete all coursework required for the Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting (120 undergraduate credit hours)
- Maintained an overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 (3.3 preferred) in each of the following three areas:
- Overall GPA
- The last 60 credit hours of undergraduate work
- Accounting course work only
Applicants must also submit an online application, a current resume, and official transcripts from every institution of higher education attended. Each applicant is considered on an individual basis. Graduate Coursework
During the first year of the MAcc program, up to 12 of the undergraduate credits completed will also be applied (credit share) as graduate credit hours to fulfill the degree requirements in the Master of Accounting program. Course Requirements for Master of Accounting
Restricted MAcc Electives (6 credits)
At least two of the following (6 credit hours): Restricted MTax Electives (3 credits)
At least one of the following (3 credit hours): Other Electives (9 credits)
In addition to the previously listed courses, MAcc students are required to complete 9 additional hours of electives. They may select any restricted elective they have not taken or any other MAcc or MTax courses. Select MBA courses approved by the MAcc Program Director may also be used up to a maximum of 6 credit hours. Also, other program opportunities such as internships, CPA exam preparation (ACTG 5700 ), and study abroad upon approval of the MAcc Program Director, may be used to satisfy elective requirements for up to 6 credit hours. Students accepted to the Accelerated Pathway may include other approved 5000-level courses. Graduate Retention Requirements
A. Retention in the graduate MAcc program will be based on the following criteria: - Completion of all MAcc program courses, including electives, and any leveling courses, with a grade of “C” or higher.
- Maintain an overall Weber State University Graduate GPA of 3.0.
B. Students who fail to meet the retention criteria will be placed on probation in the MAcc program. Students will be notified of their standing and warned that they will not be able to graduate without remedy. Students may repeat courses in order to remedy the problem. C. Students who complete the 12 credit-share courses but choose to discontinue the MAcc program afterward will still receive their Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. |
