Weber State’s OEHS degree is the only program of its kind in Utah, and one of only a few in the nation. Our graduates are trained to meet the growing demand for OEHS professionals in all industries, including construction, manufacturing, academia, government agencies and non-profit organizations. Students grow and enhance their skills in areas such as occupational health hazards, leadership, risk management, problem-solving and more. Students will gain the training to manage and implement programs to promote occupational safety and reduce or eliminate occupational hazards in the workplace as well as address industry needs.
Students in the program are also part of the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, which provides resources and additional training for those pursuing careers in occupational and environmental health and safety.
- Program Prerequisite: Completion of general education requirements and prerequisite courses listed below.
- Minor: Not Required.
- Grade Requirements: A grade of “C” or better in courses required for this major (a grade of “C-” is not acceptable) in addition to an overall GPA of 2.75 or better.
- Credit Hour Requirements: 120 credit hours are required for graduation. Forty-(40) upper division credit hours is required (courses numbered 3000 and above).

Advisement
Students are encouraged to meet with a program advisor or faculty advisor annually for course and program advisement. Call 801-626-7242 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
Admission Requirements
Declare your program of study. In addition, the following steps are required:
- Schedule an appointment for academic advisement with a member of the Department of Health Administrative Services faculty.
- Make application to the program and the Dr. Ezekiel R. Dumke College of Health Professions.
- Overall GPA of 2.75 is required.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to identify, evaluate, and control physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards in the workplace and environment using established risk assessment methodologies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of relevant occupational and environmental health and safety laws, regulations, standards, and ethical practices, and apply them to ensure compliance in various organizational settings.
- Develop skills to effectively communicate OEHS concepts, policies, and procedures and design training programs that promote a culture of safety.
- Apply statistical and analytical tools to interpret OEHS data, support evidence-based decision-making, and contribute to continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
- Understand the history and theories of OEHS.
- Develop the ability to navigate ethical dilemmas and legal responsibilities in health and safety contexts.
- Design and manage emergency response plans for natural disasters, chemical spills, and other workplace crises.
