Chemistry (BS)


  • Program Prerequisite: Not required for Chemistry major.
  • Minor: Not required for Options I and II.
  • Grade Requirements: Average GPA of 2.00 or better in Chemistry courses.
  • Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 120 credit hours are required for graduation; 75 of these are required within Option 1, 71 are required within Option 2.  A total of 40 upper division credit hours (in courses numbered 3000 and above) are required for all Chemistry majors to fulfill University graduation requirements; 37 of these are earned from required courses within Option 1 and 33 from required courses within Option 2.

Advisement

All Chemistry majors should meet with the Chemistry Department Chair at least annually for course and program advisement. Call 801-626-6952 for information and to arrange an appointment.

Admission Requirements

Declare your program of study (see Enrollment Services and Information ). There are no special admission or application requirements for the Chemistry major. 

General Education Requirements

Refer to Degree and General Education Requirements  for Bachelor of Science requirements. The following courses required for the Chemistry major also satisfy general education requirements: CHEM 1210  and PHYS 2210 .

CHEM 2600 - Laboratory Safety  (1) is highly recommended.

Study of Foreign Language and/or computer science is highly recommended for students who plan to pursue graduate studies in chemistry.

Additional upper division math courses (MATH 2210 , MATH 2270 , MATH 2280 , MATH 3410 , MATH 3710 , MATH 4110 ) are strongly recommended for students planning to attend graduate school and study physical chemistry or chemical engineering.
