OTA 1010  - Introduction to Occupational Therapy

Description: Students will learn the history, philosophical base and values, preparation and certification, and practice areas and settings of occupational therapy.  Terminology of the profession, common diagnoses and conditions commonly treated in occupational therapy, models of practice, and occupational therapy domain and process are discussed. Evidence-based practice, ethics, legal issues, and professional behaviors are discussed while career options in occupational therapy are explored.  One live job shadow of a local clinician is required and the student is responsible to arrange for this experience on their own.  Students will also participate in additional virtual job shadow experiences.
