Weber State University offers undergraduates the opportunity to work directly with faculty on projects that involve research, scholarly and creative activities. These projects are designed and implemented by students with the support and guidance of WSU faculty. Undergraduate research, and scholarly and creative activities must include:

  • inquiry, study or investigation of a question or problem;
  • methodology, including safety and ethical practices, appropriate to the discipline;
  • relevant, meaningful, and engaging intellectual or creative contribution and/or application to the discipline which is of high-quality and which results in a tangible product (abstract, paper, performance, object) which can be shared or disseminated; and
  • on-going supervision and mentoring by individuals with appropriate expertise.

Undergraduate research has long been an important part of the college experience at Weber State University. The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) supports students by offering grants for research and travel for dissemination of results; scholarships for a research fellowship program; and financial support for summer research opportunities for students and their mentors. OUR publishes Ergo, WSU’s undergraduate research journal, sponsors the fall research and engagement symposium, and is a key stakeholder in the sprin research and engagement symposium.

Students can enroll in courses with the CRE (curriculum based research experience) attribute. The CRE attribute will be included on the student’s transcript along with their course credit. In addition, students can receive recognition on their transcripts (under non-credit course section) with the CRE attribute by participating in a co-curricular undergraduate research experiences.
