  • Minor: Required.
  • Grade Requirements: A 2.0 or better in all courses required for this major in addition to an overall GPA of 2.00 (C) or higher.
  • Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 120 credit hours is required for graduation; a minimum of 39 of these must be valid English courses. A total of 40 upper division credit hours is required (courses numbered 3000 and above); a minimum of 27 of these must be English courses.

Advisement

Major Course Requirements for BA Degree


A minimum of 39 credit hours is required in English courses, of which at least 27 credit hours must be upper division (3000-4000 level courses).  A Minor is also required.

Common courses - 9 credits


Take each of the following classes:

Distribution- 21 credits


*Courses fulfill one distribution requirement may NOT be used to fulfill a second designation requirement

Geography Distribution- 9 credits


Take one class in each of the following three geographical categories: British, American, and Global/World Literature

Period Distribution- 6 credits


Take two classes, one dealing primarily with literature before 1800 and one after 1800

Genre Distribution- 6 credits


Take one class in two of the following three categories: poetry, prose fiction/narrative, and drama/film/new media

Electives- 6 credits


Take two elective classes

Senior seminar or Internship- 3 credits


Take 1 senior seminar or internship class
