The Film Studies minor is an interdisciplinary program that analyzes film theory, history, practice, and cultural significance. Students will study a broad range of film texts and learn to appreciate a variety of aesthetic and filmmaking techniques. A minor in Film Studies will enable students to analyze, contextualize, and produce films within the broad context of humanistic studies. The Film Studies minor will provide students with a solid background in critical thinking, writing, and filmmaking skills. The film studies minor consists of a minimum of 18 credits distributed among required core courses (9 credits) and a choice of electives (9 credits) and can be integrated with any major or minor.
Program Learning Outcomes:
- Create: Students will apply their technical and theoretical skills in producing films and creative works.
- Analyze: Students will apply interpretive methodologies to explore the social, ideological, and ethical values presented in media works.
- Collaborate: Students will work constructively to solve problems and collaborate in diverse teams to create impactful films.
Program Prerequisite: None required. However, some of the individual course options have a prerequisite or corequisite, as shown below.
Grade Requirements: A grade of 2.0 or better in all courses used toward the minor.
Credit Hour Requirements: 18 credit hours, apportioned as directed below.
