Special Education Mathematics Endorsement Pathway Certificate of Proficiency

This certificate is designed to award students for completion of the required coursework outlined by the Utah State Board of Education for the Special Education Mathematics Teaching endorsement.  It can only be earned upon completion of a bachelor’s degree.

Advisement

Students should be advised that this certificate acknowledges that the coursework needed for the Utah State Board of Education Special Education Mathematics Teaching Endorsement has been satisfied.  Until the student also satisfies the requirements for a teaching licensure through the Weber State University College of Education or through a local educational agency (LEA), the student cannot apply for this endorsement from the state.

While any major is invited to complete the courses required of this endorsement, students majoring in a mathematics or education related field would be more prepared for the courses required.  Students should be advised of the prerequisite requirements for the course required in this certificate.

MATH 1210 prerequisite is MATH 1050 and MATH 1060

MTHE 3060 prerequisite is MATH 1210

MTHE 3070 prerequisite is MATH 2020 (preceded by MATH 2010 and MATH 2015)

MTHE 3117 prerequisite is MATH 3110 (preceded by MATH 1210)

MTHE 3015 prerequisite is MATH 2015 (preceded by MATH 2010)

MTHE 3115 prerequisite is MATH 1210

MTHE 4000 prerequisite is two MTHE courses

Admission Requirements

Any major is invited to complete this sets of courses, however, majors in Elementary Education, Special Education, mathematics, and physics would be most likely to have completed the prerequisite requirements of the required courses.  Additionally, Special Education majors would be best positioned to use the certificate for employment as they would also have met the requirements to be a special education teacher.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students completing this set of courses will have satisfied the coursework requirements by the state of Utah to earn the Special Education Mathematics Teaching endorsement. These students will have acquired the mathematical content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge needed to teach Grades 7-12 mathematics to special education students.
