Applied Politics, Philosophy and Economics (BAP)


  • Program Co-requisite: MATH 1050 , 1080 , or 1090 .
  • Minor: No minor is required.
  • Grade Requirements: PPE majors must have an overall GPA of 2.00 and a “C” or better in courses used toward the major (a “C-” is not acceptable for major credit.)
  • Credit Hour requirements:  A total of 90 credit hours is required for graduation.  Forty (40) upper-division credit hours are required (3000 and above)
  • Program Code: 7067BAP with one of the following cohort codes for tracks: APPECLL (Campaigns, Legislative and Lobbying) or APPEPE (Political Economy)
  • CIPC: 451002

Overview

All APPE students will take 75 credits of core courses, including PPE foundational courses and General Education Requirements. Students must declare either the Political Economy cohort or the Campaigns, Legislation, and Lobbying cohort, which will determine the requirements for the remaining 15 credits.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Equip students with a robust understanding of political science, philosophy, and economics, and the ability to integrate these disciplines to analyze complex social, economic, and political issues.
  2. Apply theoretical concepts to real-world challenges, particularly in areas like public policy, government, business, and community engagement.
  3. Develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills, along with a deep commitment to ethical reasoning, to prepare graduates for responsible decision-making in their careers.
  4. Prepare students with marketable skills (e.g., policy analysis, data interpretation, ethical decision-making) relevant to careers in government, public policy, business, and graduate studies.

Advisement

Students who are interested in APPE should meet with Dr. Mary Beth Willard, Dr. Leah Murray, or Dr. Gavin Roberts upon declaring the major.  Students should meet with one of the above annually for course planning and to discuss progress toward graduation and professional goals.
