PDD 3810  - Machines and Mechanisms

Credits: (1-3)
Experimental Course, Contact Department for More Information
Uses 3D parametric design software to create production designs and drawings for open-ended design projects, focusing on the relationship between “make” and “buy” parts. Gives students the opportunity to become familiar with engineering functions and manufacturing processes as related to mechanical design. Introduces the iterative process required to optimize design solutions. Studies elements inherent to the design of components fabricated from traditional engineering materials using practical manufacturing methods. Examines the characteristics of mechanical components and the integration of said components to specific machine designs. Uses select information from manufacturer’s data for components integral to the comprehensive design and detailing of complete machines. Covers concepts such as position, velocity, and acceleration analysis as related to four-bar linkages. Covers mechanism design including cams, gear trains, and belt and chain drives. Supports the design and drawing requirements for senior projects.
